tyrone williams is a northampton-based image maker with over 15 years of experience in photography and image manipulation. Aesthetix, CHIASM and Phosphorescent are just a handful of titles behind the experimental legends belt. beyond a personal admiration for the work, i found myself fascinated by the process and the artist. williams has taken a form of media to its absolute boundary, side-stepped that boundary and pushed even further beyond by fully embracing the power of digital tools: 3d rendering, digital image manipulation, ai extension - the list is exhaustive, and williams has conquered them all.

whilst his career initially had a fascination toward beauty in the mundane, SPIKE sees a lens shift to something more metaphysical, more reactionary. a result of multi-layered textures and images, these monuments appear to have a composition comprised equally of chrome and bacteria - artificial yet natural. their forms algorithmically extended, the artworks are windows into a future both biophillic and hyper-digital. a representation of the artist’s wariness towards the unknown future we are marching towards in the arts, the titular spikes command a metaphorical distance to the viewer. SPIKE begs the question of whether this no-man’s land should be breached, and if so, to what end does this mirror a creative collaboration? what will result in the mixture of machine and art? it’s a delicate balancing act that williams is boldly embarking on, outputting bold, striking and innovative imagery along the way.
